Syngenta Seeds presents its new tomato varieties “Silverio” and “Charleston” in Argentina

“The Integrated Tomato Management workshop” – Mar del Plata, 26th July 2008

S&G – Rogers, the horticultural brands of the multinational company Syngenta Seeds, organized the “Integrated Tomato Management workshop” on 26th July 2008 in the Argentinean coastal resort of Mar del Plata.

Over 70 producers and technicians attended the event, at which the company presented its new varieties Silverio and Charleston, specially adapted to greenhouse growing conditions in the local climate, offering a high quality and yield.

Mr. Joaquin Otero, responsible for research and development at Syngenta Seeds Vegetables, opened the workshop with a presentation of the tomato varieties suitable for development in the region and the alternatives for early and traditional crops. Mr. Otero explained the technical features of the Bobcat variety, which provides large, excellent-quality fruits, and the Talladega variety, which is highly resistant to the Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV).

Mr. Sergio Camilletti, technical advisor for tomato and red pepper growing in greenhouses, gave an overview of the integral management of tomato growing, covering all aspects from soil to the best greenhouse design.

The workshop included a discussion forum about production issues, raising the question of alternative production systems to improve the profitability of tomato growing in the region.

The “Integrated Tomato Management workshop” marks the starting point of a cycle of conferences that will be held during the year in the country’s production areas.
