High level of participation key to the success of Syngenta Seeds’ Professional Symposium in Almería

More than 1,000 people taking part at the Professional Symposium organised by Syngenta Seeds in El Ejido

The main focus was on information at the Professional Symposium organised by Syngenta Seeds in El Ejido, Almería, on 26 November 2009. With more than 1,000 people taking part, the symposium served as a meeting point for producers in the region of Almería, as well as technicians and sales agents from production and trading companies in the sector.

At the 2009 Professional Symposium, S&G presented a number of new vegetable varieties:

 

• Pepper: S&G offers a combination of early, mid-season and late varieties of the red ripening California type, with which it closes the production cycle from mid-June to early August; these three varieties are Bily, Cenzano and Gallega. They are complemented by the Lamuyo Gaston type, notable for its size and quality, for transplants at the end of July and in August.

• Tomato: one of the highlights of the Open Doors Day was the presentation of the new rootstocks. Arnold and Armstrong have arrived on the tomato market with the aim of setting the benchmark for tomato crops with perfectly balanced medium-high vigour and a degree of resistance that satisfies the needs of the grower. They also offer considerable seedbed advantages, including a high germination rate and a good proportion of useful plant growth.

•  Courgette: the Cronos variety, notable for its early ripening, resistance and attractive colour.

• Dutch cucumber: Strategos, the first variety in S&G’s new line of cucumbers, positioned for autumn and spring cycles, with the emphasis on fruit quality, especially in new shoots, and high production. Furthermore, participants had the opportunity to observe a variety in the course of a test period: LC8702, for September sowing, which offers high resistance to the yellow stunting virus (CYSDV) and high production with dark, well-formed fruits.

To bring the symposium to a close, participants were invited to a lunch, which provided an excellent meeting point for professionals in the area, since they were able to exchange know-how and experiences.
