Turkey: Tomato production up in 2011

Production of both fruit and vegetables is expected to increase

The latest estimates announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) predict that fruit and vegetable production in Turkey will increase in 2011. On the one hand, vegetable production will be 5.8% higher than in 2010, whereas fruit production will rise by 3.6%. It is anticipated that tomato production will show an increase of 9.6%.

Vegetable production is expected to reach 27.5 million tonnes, and fruit production 17.2 million tonnes. According to the estimates for 2011, root and tuberous vegetable production will increase by 8% compared with 2010, production of vegetables cultivated for their fruits will rise 5.6%, while all other vegetables will show an increase of 3.5%.
